content warnings / opt-out
Apr. 29th, 2037 01:52 amFirst off: I am fully aware of JK Rowling's transphobia, racism, sexism, anti-Semitism, classism, and... general -ism. I know this will put a lot of people off playing against Harry Potter characters.
If you don't want me to tag you for this or any other reason, let me know here. Comments are screened, and I will not take it personally. Please specify the characters/journals to which this applies - I'm bad at keeping track of people's muselists!
Secondly: Kreacher in particular is a character who deals with the worst aspects of Harry Potter's setting. He's also not very nice. The blanket content warnings are:

Secondly: Kreacher in particular is a character who deals with the worst aspects of Harry Potter's setting. He's also not very nice. The blanket content warnings are:
- Slavery - Kreacher is from a species born into slavery, he has been a slave all his life, and his whole worldview is inextricable from that. This is very difficult to avoid in threads. If this is uncomfortable for you, consider opting out of him entirely.
- Racism - Kreacher is, per canon, very much of the opinion that wizards are better than everyone else, and that pureblood wizards are the best. He is also a very obvious victim of (fantasy) racism, being from a species which is completely subjugated in his setting. While real-world racism (i.e. racism based on ethnicity) is unlikely, threads with him will tend to include at least some aspects of fantasy racism. This is also hard to completely avoid, but can be toned down on request.
- Dehumanisation/depersonalisation - Kreacher does not consider himself a "person", per se, and this will come through in how he acts and refers to himself. He may also depersonalise and dehumanise other characters who are visibly non-human. The latter is something I can tone down in threads: the former is not.
- Self-harm - Kreacher, like all house-elves, has always expected to physically and violently harm himself when he does something wrong. This can include minor forms of self-harm, or very over-the-top actions like ironing his hands or slamming his head in the oven door. This can be toned down in threads, and probably will.
- Trauma, maladaptive trauma responses - Even aside from the slavery, Kreacher has a lot of trauma: losing the closest thing he had to a friend, being left alone in an empty house for 20 years while his brain was attacked by Dark magic, watching the people he cares about die... He does not deal with this well. He also doesn't talk about it much, but it's there. This is easily skimmed over in most threads.
If you are uncomfortable with any of this, and would like to either tone it down or avoid it entirely, please let me know here!
